The Praetorian Guard consisted of a special force of skilled and celebrated warriors used by Roman Emporers.
Formed from the best, bravest and most loyal of his own men, the Praetorian Guard were generally exempt from any standard camp duties and saved for protecting their general. Service as a Praetorian guardsman not only offered elite status, but in many respects offered considerable benefits.
